Field notes
Leverlore is a free virtual operant conditioning lab for students of behavior analysis and psychology: ABA and BCBA candidates, undergraduates in learning and behavior courses, and anyone who wants to see what a reinforcement schedule does to behavior. A simulated rat lives in a Skinner-box style chamber with a lever, a pellet cup, a house light and a tone. You set the contingencies; the rat responds according to published quantitative models of operant behavior, and every press is plotted on a live cumulative record.
Continuous reinforcement, fixed ratio, variable ratio, fixed interval and variable interval. Compare the pause-and-run of FR with the steady rate of VR, and the break-and-run of FI with the even pace of VI.
Withhold reinforcement and watch responding decline, sometimes after a brief burst. Give the rat a few days off and see how much responding returns, and how quickly it fades again.
Train a light or tone as S+ with S− on extinction, run a generalization test, or give the rat two levers on concurrent VI schedules and check the matching law against your own data.
Shape lever pressing by hand with a clicker, adjust hunger, reinforcer size, delay and lever effort, then test yourself with read-the-record quizzes, mystery schedules and a timed exam.
If you have used older virtual rat software in a course, Leverlore covers the same core exercises in a current browser, with nothing to install and no license to buy. Graphs and event logs export as PNG and CSV for lab reports, and everything you do stays in your own browser.
